What Goals Do You Have?

It’s hard to believe, but we are in the month of June. Before you start your summer plans for you and your family. Before your vacation packing is complete. Get a glass of your favorite drink. Sit down in your favorite comfy chair. It’s time to look at the goals that you started in January or just in the first months of the year. What were they? How many were they? Did you achieve any of the goals that you set out to accomplish? If so, why and how? Let’s slow all the way down and consider something that is vital to all of the goals that you have set.

Most experts who try to help people with setting goals, often tell them to consider “THEIR WHY”. They usually say that focusing on the main reason you are doing what you are doing will help you stay focused. It helps when things get tough and you are discouraged. Some suggest that you keep “YOUR WHY” posted in an important area that you can see constantly. What is “YOUR WHY”?

Now, let’s revisit your goals that you set. How many were there? Did you make sure that they were not more than six or seven? Did you make about fifteen to twenty goals that may seem way too much when going through a tough time? There’s fantastic advice from experts given to point you in the right direction when revisiting your goals.

Goal Overview

How did you decide to set the goals that you have? When you set your goals, did you develop a system to accomplish these goals? For an example, let’s just say a person makes a goal of losing weight. This is a very common goal. Should the person just say “My goal is to lose ten pounds”. Should the person just state that and do nothing else? Of course not! If you are like many, writing down your small daily and weekly accomplishments can make a major difference with reaching your goals. Let’s go back to trying to lose weight. When writing your daily wins, it’s easier to see what habits and steps it took to get to those. Have you been journaling daily to take a look back at your daily routine? Many use a journal that assist them with tracking their daily efforts.

Once you are able to look at your daily routine, it’s easier to answer the following questions.

  1. Do I still need this goal?
  2. If no, what’s my new goal?
  3. If yes, what do I need to do to ensure that I reach my goal?

It’s easy to say “Stay positive even though life may get in the way.” Many times things don’t go as smooth as we want them to. Sometimes it’s hard to make the right decisions. Distractions may try to keep you from achieving your goal. You may need to revisit and adjust your plans again. What are you needing to adjust in order to reach your goals? Many people have found that their mindset really does make a difference to if, how, and when they accomplish their goals.

The most important thing to realize at this time of year is that it is important to take a look at your goals to make sure you are on the right path. Sometimes we really believe that we are doing a great job. We don’t realize until we take a closer look that we aren’t doing as well as we thought.
